WIP – American Exceptionalism
Wednesday, March 30th, 2011Here’s something I’ve been working on for a zine that my buddy Nate Bear is putting together. Hopefully I’ll find time to work on it some more, and maybe add color (the zine is b+w).
With any luck it’s self-explanatory, even without knowing the Watchmen inspiration*. It’s meant to be a graphic representation of our — specifically, Obama’s — war-mongering, civilian indifferent policies, and a satire of our self-aggrandizement.
*In the graphic novel a super-human, near-omnipotent Dr. Manhattan dramatically changes the outcome of the Vietnam war by almost single-handedly obliterating the opposition in like fashion. I’m thinking about titling this piece after a line from the book: “God exists, and he’s American.”
As this is a Work In Progress, any constructive feedback is welcome. This is an important piece to me and I want it to be as good as it can be.
Hope this makes sense to someone else!
The White Suits preview
Thursday, March 17th, 2011Angela Davis
Tuesday, February 1st, 2011After seeing a clip of her during a segment on Democracy Now! about a new documentary called Black Power Mixtape I just had to make some art.
Revolutionaries near and far look to the example set by the black community – today and throughout history – in the ongoing struggle for civil and social justice. Not only for their tenacity in demolishing racial prejudice but for outspoken action against poverty and war. In this piece, I’ve chosen to highlight lifetime activist, author, and political philosopher Angela Davis. Her persistent battle for true democracy and prison reforms exemplifies the noblest aspects of black history, and serves as an example of a life uncompromised.
I’ve entered it into a Black History Month art contest and you can vote for it every day here. Every vote is matched with a $1 donation to UNCF so by voting you not only help me but help give an education to underprivileged kids!
For reminders to vote every day, you can join this facebook event or follow me on twitter. Thanks!

Friday, December 3rd, 2010White Suits promo
Thursday, November 18th, 2010We’re printing up some physical copies to pitch and we thought we’d do another piece to fill out the inside cover. A darkened version will actually be printed so as to not distract from the story, but I thought I’d post the original.
Some shortcuts were taken for some of the photos (like reusing a panel from the sample page) but I’m still pretty happy with it.
The White Suits
Monday, November 8th, 2010Here’s the cover and pages for the pitch I’ve been working on for a while now. I was fortunate enough to be really involved with crafting the storyline and I’m very proud of how it’s developing.
And here they are with the lettering:
I’m pretty excited about this project. We’re about to start showing it around to publishers, so I’m crossing my fingers.
